Who we are
Source Canada is an editorial and event platform that connects Canadian buyers, founders, and operators around the procurement of Canadian technology. This policy describes how we collect, use, and share personal information when you visit sourcecan.ca, subscribe to our newsletter, submit our contact form, or attend our events.
What we collect
We collect personal information directly from you when you:
- Subscribe to our newsletter — your email address.
- Submit the contact form — your name, email, the content of your message, and optionally a subject line and how you describe yourself (corporate buyer, startup, sponsor, partner, or other).
- Register for or attend a Source Canada event — typically your name, email, employer, and role; sometimes additional details required by a venue or partner.
- Browse the website — limited technical information collected through first-party cookies (for session security and basic site functionality) and aggregate, anonymized analytics through our publishing platform.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
How we use your information
We use the information you provide to:
- Send you our newsletter and updates about Source Canada events and initiatives.
- Respond to messages submitted through our contact form.
- Coordinate logistics if you register for an event.
- Operate, secure, and improve sourcecan.ca.
Who we share information with
We may share relevant personal information with:
- Event sponsors, partners, and collaborators, when sharing is relevant to Source Canada activities — for example, attendee lists for events you've registered for, introductions between buyers and sellers, or sponsor reporting.
- Service providers we rely on to operate the site and communications, including Ghost (our publishing platform, which hosts member records and the website), Formspree (which processes contact form submissions), and the email infrastructure Ghost uses to deliver newsletters.
- Government or law enforcement if required to do so under applicable Canadian law.
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep your information
We retain the personal information you provide indefinitely, unless you ask us to delete it. Long-term retention lets us maintain continuity across newsletters, events, and ongoing relationships in the Canadian technology ecosystem.
Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses first-party cookies for site functionality (such as session security and member sign-in) and aggregate, anonymized analytics through our publishing platform. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking. Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings; disabling cookies may affect some features of the site.
Your rights
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Law 25 where applicable, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Withdraw consent for our use of your information at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.
- Request deletion of your information.
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or in Quebec with the Commission d'accès à l'information.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@sourcecan.ca and we'll respond as soon as we can.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information. No system is perfectly secure, however. If we experience a privacy breach that could meaningfully harm you, we'll notify you and the relevant authorities as Canadian law requires.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. We'll communicate material changes via email to subscribers when appropriate.
